When we visited this small Cycladic island, for the first time some twenty years ago, I said to my wife while the plane was ready to land, It is the first and the last time... (She still remembers it!).

I was so upset by the total absence of green.

Fortunately, those words were proven unlucky.

This year I noticed some significant changes. All the figures were showing 2013 would be a record year for Greek tourism. Mykonos gained a big share of the pie. To my view, three are the main reasons:

1) The by far best beaches in the Mediterranean
2) It's wonderful "Chora" (capital)
3)The enormous variety of its hotels, for all pockets

We stayed (and it must be a record), for the ninth consecutive year, at Imperial hotel, in Elia.

It is actually run by three brothers under the discreete supervision of their father. Every year, there are new addings. As to this year, we stayed at the Villas,at the heights. The more you ...climb, the view of the glorious Aegean sea, appears more dramatic. Actually the villas opened last year and the whole scenery reminds a James Bond film...Beginning of August, some seventy new rooms and suites (built in nine months!) made their debut under the inviting name of "Utopia". All in black and white, even higher at the hill dominating the endless beach of Elia. By the way, the whole complex has reserved all the left part of the beach, for its clients.

When we checked out, I was sure that resorts of this kind, are the best ambassadors for the struggling Greek economy.
