"I do not agree with those who say Europe didn't walk at a satisfactory pace.."

..Says in a recent statement, Valery Giscard D'Estaing, ex president of France. Europe has particularly well functionned.

The European union has permitted that peace was established in our continent which suffered a lot from wars. It took away all the obstacles concerning the human and economic exchanges. It established a civic space. And recently, thanks to two visionaries, we achieved that the European currency became in a fiew years, the second most important currency in the world. It is a fact though, there was a major crisis, which was not tackled in the proper way, and as a consequence we faced a rise in unemployment and social-economic difficult situation. But it is wrong to say that Europe didn't go ahead. To pretend that Europeans deslike..Europe, is a joke. They dislike the way European institutions function, but that is a different story. People do not understand how the European union works and cannot identify the persons that are handling its matters, however they wish they succeed.

And where do the mistakes come from ?

The first one is that we mishandled the effects of numbers. We were six countries in the beginning, now twenty eight, and we practically changed nothing.

At the time of the first parliamentary elections back in 1979, we had to elect 500 representatives. In May 2014, they will be 960.

The European Comission started with 12 or 13 member states, now there are 28 of them. Europe didn't see that it was getting bigger and had to adapt within its institutions and rules.

It doesn't make sense. The second problem is that Europe has no objectives anymore. How do you expect to lead people without an objective ? The real question in the coming years, is to define very clearly the goals of the European construction. Big reforms are needed to follow the European policies. Another challenge would be dealing with the other Europe, the one wanting to integrate, the Eurozone Europe. We must give it an objective as well, looking beyond our frontiers. The world is changing, is leaded by a huge entirety of financial, social, and cultural organisations, well more developped than ours, and for sure much richer.

Shall we build in Europe a strong financial power ? That is the objective. If we propose a calendar to the European people, with all above, then they will turn to be pro-Europeans, again....
